Aaron Ramsey retires at 35 as Wales captain steps away from football — BettingVoice.com report

Aaron Ramsey has officially announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 35, bringing an end to a career that spanned nearly two decades, BettingVoice.com reports.

The former Wales captain, who has been without a club since his departure from Mexican side Pumas UNAM, confirmed his decision on Tuesday. He is now expected to move into coaching as he begins the next chapter of his career.

Ramsey leaves behind a strong international legacy. He earned 86 caps for Wales and scored 21 goals, playing a central role during one of the most successful periods in the nation’s football history. He featured in major tournaments including Euro 2016, Euro 2020, and the 2022 FIFA World Cup—Wales’ first appearance on that stage in over six decades.

One of the standout moments of his international career came at Euro 2016, where Wales reached the semi-finals. Ramsey’s performances during that tournament earned him a place in UEFA’s Team of the Tournament and helped establish him as one of the country’s most influential players.

At club level, Ramsey began his journey with Cardiff City before securing a move to Arsenal in 2008. During his time in North London, he developed into a key figure for the club, winning three FA Cups and scoring decisive goals in two finals.

After leaving Arsenal, he went on to play for Juventus in Italy, followed by spells at Nice and Rangers. While at Rangers, he was part of the squad that reached the Europa League final in 2022. He later returned to Cardiff City, where he also took on a short-term role as interim head coach.

In a message shared with fans, Ramsey described his retirement as a difficult decision and expressed gratitude to those who supported him throughout his career. He paid special tribute to the Wales supporters, often referred to as the “Red Wall,” for their role in the team’s achievements.

Ramsey also thanked his former clubs, teammates, and family, acknowledging their support over the years.

His retirement marks the end of a career defined by important goals, leadership on the pitch, and a lasting impact on Welsh football.
